There are many different types and materials that are used to manufacture these sealing products. The properties of the materials used are important for the best performance. The materials used in the O-rings hold their shape well in sealing applications and are cost-effective.
Nitrile (NBR) O-rings

NBR, also known as Nitrile or nitrile butadiene rubber, is one of the most widely used O-Ring materials. It is highly valued for its affordability and reliable mechanical properties with excellent resistance to abrasion and oil.
NBR sealing material is commonly used in the auto industry. The compound performs well in water, hydraulic fluids, and petroleum-based applications.
Material Properties of NBR exhibits superior mechanical strength with high elasticity as well as good deformation behavior in a temperature range between -30 °C and 100 °C.
Applications: Ideal for pneumatic and hydraulic systems, petroleum-based oils and fuels, silicone oils, cold water, and ethylene glycol fluids.
Temperature Range: -30 °C to 100 °C
Silicone O-rings
Silicone material is a great electric insulator, characterized by very high flexibility and compressibility, even at high temperatures. Its many advantages include resistance to oxidation, water or aqueous solutions. A very important feature under changing temperature conditions is resistance to oxidation. This feature also applies to periods when the material is subjected to long-term used.
Applications: Silicone O-rings provide insulation, flexibility, and reliable sealing capabilities when used in static applications.
Silicone O-rings can effectively seal both moving and fixed components of your engine parts.
Their flexible structure allows you to withstand extreme temperatures. The product can withstand temperatures from -50°C to 240°C.
In the high temperature option, it can withstand as much as 300°C.
Temperature Range: The working ranges in which the material is stable are -60 to 180 °C. In some instances, the material can work at a temperature of 250°C.
Viton® O-rings
Viton® is a synthetic fluoropolymer elastomer used for O-rings in demanding and harsh conditions.
It is the preferred choice for applications requiring an O-ring that can withstand extreme heat and severe environmental conditions, including exposure to oxygen, mineral oils, various fuels, hydraulic fluids, chemicals, and solvents.
Viton® O-rings are oil-resistant seals with high resilience to a wide range of chemicals, mineral oils and silicone lubricants.
In addition, their flexible structure is resistant to hydraulic fluids – HFA, HFC, propane, buteline, as well as some dilute acids and bases.
The Viton® material offers low gas permeability, excellent aging characteristics, and resistance to mineral oils, synthetic hydraulic fluids, fuels, and aliphatic hydrocarbons.
Benefits of Viton® O-rings
Applications: The Viton® O-rings assortment of grades has an extremely wide temperature range and are highly resistant to chemical attacks are used in applications exposed to hydraulic oil, petroleum-based fluids, natural gas, ozone resistance, aliphatic hydrocarbons (fuel, propane), aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene), and chlorine water.
(Not Recommended For: Steam, hot water, ketones, and brake fluids)
Temperature Range: -50°C to 205°C/230°C (-15°F to 400°F/440°F)
